The Expanded Field at MAS MoCA - under construction
Based on an interactive public art conceptnd design created by Jane Philbrick, Artist, The Expanded Field is set on a 1.5 acre site within MASS MoCA's 300,000 SF campus in the former Sprague Electric Manufacturing Plant in North Adams, MA.
OL Ltd created a Master Plan in conjunction with Ms. Philbrick and the contractor, New England Landscape & Aquatic, LLC.
The Expanded Field is intended to be an interactive public park and space where circles of hammered earth forms provide seating within groves of native trees. Unusual features in this space include:
- "sing set" which are adult swings hung from a highway overpass;
- a former factory stone retaining wall is retrofitted to accommodate a sound system that will play an original composure by Ms. Philbrick;
- "body pockets" which are natural sitting areas carved into a steep vegetated slope;
- distressed macadam planted with native groundcovers;
Park Street Improvements, Adams, MA - under design
A collaboration with Office of Community Development, Tighe & Bond Consulting Engineers, the four block "Main Street" of the Town of Adams will be rebuilt and improved under the Master Plan being designed.
Proposed features include:
- bolder-more visible pedestrian crosswalks with extended curbs, special pavers, shade trees, seasonal display baskets on existing cast iron light poles and bollards.
- slight widening of the eastern sidewalk;
- new sidewalks and granite curbing;
- streetscape enhancements such as benches and bike racks;
New Headquarters Iredale Minerals Corp - under construction
The former Bryant School, circa 1889, located in downtown Great Barrington, MA is being converted to the world headquarters for Iredale Minerals Corporation (IMC).
OL Ltd is part of a Design Team led by Croxton Collaborative Architects of New York, NY along with Foresight Lands Services, Civil Engineers which provided master planning, permitting and construction and bid documents. This project is intended to meet the Gold LEED certification.
Interesting landscape & site features include:
- reduction of 100 year stormwater runoff rates by 29% using a system of rain gardens, stone dissapaters, underground catchment, roof gutters and conversion of impervious surfaces to landscape.
- former paved playgrounds converted to visitor parking surrounded by lush plantings.
- Green-planted retaining wall.
- LED lighting throughout.
- Ice and snow melt system for front entrance walkway.
